Welcome to my demo site for Taylorville Baseball
May 21st
Hello. I have thrown this together in a couple evenings to offer up, for free, to the board of the Taylorville Baseball League. I found that the current site is lacking the “pop” that the site could have. There is nothing wrong with the current solution, but the eteams free sites are very limiting and sometimes annoying. I wish no disrespect to whoever put that solution in place, but I would like to offer my service to the league in the form of this website and some of my time each week to maintain it. I do not want any form of compensation for this.
So, I am welcome to other suggestion, but what you see here right now is what I thought was a good base for the league. I’ve added a little content off the existing site to show the power of this design, but more will be added if the solution is welcomed.
Here are the key elements to what I’ve thrown together here:
- Front page. This is a blog style layout where the newest posts/updates are at the top. Like I said in the previous post (Test Post #1), a post normally won’t be super big on the front page. There is a more button to allow the author to split the post wherever they see fit. The front page also has a “Featured Post” slide up top where the more important, long term news/info can be shared.
- About page. This is a page where I would ask someone to write something about the league as well as possible provide bios for the board. This would be ultimately decided by the board.
- Calendar page. Just a script that brings up a real time calendar where all the games, scheduled maintenance, etc can be placed. Check it out, it’s pretty slick.
- Forum. I doubt there would be much use for forums, but I am figuring a forum category for each league for general chit chat and a Trading post forum for buying and selling equipment within the leagues families.
- Schedules drop down menu. I can set this up to have the schedules for each league in an online format. We can still link to an actual printable document too.
- Gallery. I am still working on this solution, but I thought a photo gallery would be a great addition.
Another thing to note about this site. It’s built around a blog software called Wordpress and I set it up to where anyone with the knowledge to put together a Word Doc can figure out how to make updates to the content. This will be hosted on my server so there is no additional costs to the league in the form of hosting fees.
Thanks for taking a look at this and I hope it will be of value to the league. My son is 7, so if he continues to enjoy playing, we should be around quite a few years. (ps. he is the photo in this post. I placed it there to show the styling a post can have)

Test Post #1

This will be removed later. I am just testing some elements of a post. Normally a post that has the length of this one would have a page break that would say “read more” to keep the front page more brief, but I am testing different media elements with this post.
Thursday to finish off a seven-run ninth inning that gave the Braves a 10-9 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, who fell out of first in the NL Central and can only hope the stunning loss doesn’t leave a hangover on their surprisingly strong start.
"It was a horrible ending," said Reds manager Dusty Baker, who appeared close to breaking down after the game. "Boy, that was a tough one."
The Braves put together the biggest ninth-inning comeback since the Cleveland Indians rallied from six runs down against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 25, 2009, according to STATS LLC.
